As stated on your syllabus, your grade will mainly be determined by your exams and quizzes. The  essay exams will be worth 100 points each, so there will be a total number of 200 points available. Quizzes will count 5 points apiece, and I hope to have at least 8 quizzes over the course of the semester.

Your letter grade will be determined by dividing the number of points you earned by the total possible.

90 to 100% = A
80 to 89% = B
70 to 79% = C
60 to 69% = D
Less than 60% = F

Class participation will be determined by your participation in the threaded discussions. If, on the exams, you end up scoring within three or four points of the next highest grade, I will look at your forum participation in terms of consistency over the course of the semester, as well as the frequency and quality of your contributions. If you have truly been tuned in, you will be awarded the higher grade. If not, then you will keep the grade you earned on the examinations. Flexibility will be solely determined by your forum participation.
